gr!eeting from california ! torrey pines is looking like a us open site with the mean rough and FAST greens! our days start at 4:00am trip to the course from the university of san diego campus where our dorm rooms are. we did manage to find a decent watering hole if you know what i mean ! back to the grass...ht. of cut greens @ .100 tees are .275 fairways @ .390 and the roughs start @1.25 then 2.5 then 3.5 then 4+ the closer you get to the ropes. Greens are very clean poa annua...firmness is being monitored and adjusted daily with rollers. speed is 13' on the stimp now. hand watering only.
my assignment is the mowing all 18 holes of tees. i have two torrey pines employees and three volunteers. we starrted @ 5:30 this morning and were finished by 7:00 of course we're not mowing the public tees but still a lot of ground to cover. oh yeah we do it twice per day. tees are all squared off. check out my straight lines on 3,8,12 and 16.
as if on cue tiger showed up @ 7:00 am for the first time of the day. he bubba watson, and jordan cox had a small crowd first thing this morning. tiger quit after nine the crowds were even bigger when he got picked up.
at this point the sun has not come out for very long. temps are in the 60's for the most part except when the sun pokes out.
i'm taking some shots as we go around these first few days and will send them in to the webmaster to post so keep tuned in for more stuff from torrey pines.
